What Makes Connecticut So Awesome?

Connecticut is known as being a member of the tri-state area (the other members of the geographic triumvirate are New York and New Jersey.) It's bordered by Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York and is one of the smaller states in the nation. It is ranked 48th in size. It's been coined with the nickname "The Land Of Steady Habits," "Constitution State," and "Nutmeg State."

Connecticut was integral in the foundation of the United States. It was an active member of the Thirteen Colonies that spurred an insurrection against the British.

For those who are unacquainted with Connecticut, you just might think, "Sure, great history. So what?" Well, it transcends a spectacular history. Connecticut is, honestly, a great place to live. Among other things, it is the home of the only university in NCAA history to win both the men's and women's national basketball championship in the same year, the UConn Huskies.

Another great thing is, if you are a business, the rates for business long distance plans are great. Usually, the plans ask for 1-8 cents per minute on a long distance call (whether its state to state or international.) Long distance phone plans are definitely the way to go if you have a small business that needs to make calls to others who are quite far away.

Okay, admittedly, you still may be unconvinced that Connecticut is a good state to reside in. Well, if you're ambivalent about its awesomeness, I may be able to persuade you to the other side.

Pros of Living in Connecticut

  • Tranquility: The state is a calm, tranquil place to live with several quaint towns sprinkled throughout.
  • The Weather: Common natural disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. are not common here. As the towns and cities are tranquil, so is the weather (when not in the hearts of winter or summer.)
  • An Intelligent Workforce: Intelligence is embedded in Connecticut's DNA. It's very easy to have smart, balanced conversation with strangers. Most of the residents have gone through higher education.
  • Near the Big Cities: Connecticut is interesting because of its proximity to a number of states and their cities. It's about two hours away from both New York and Boston.
  • The Beauty of the State: This is heavily touted by the state's inhabitants. They hoist this like a banner. It's safe to say that they are quite proud of it. From the green, undulating foothills to the shorelines, the state is aesthetically special.

The Cons

  • The High Cost of Living: Well, everything can't be perfect, right? The high cost of living is a common complaint from prospective and current residents. The median income for a household is $68,000 (which is a good thing, because if it was any less, the quality of life would take a huge hit, seeing that the prices are high.)
  • The Weather: This is both a pro and a con. While nothing drastic happens in Connecticut, the weather can be pretty dreary in the winter time (harsh snow, icy rain) and irritably stifling in the summer (hot temperatures, humid atmosphere.)

Sure, Connecticut has some flaws: high cost of living being the most pronounced. However, the general consensus is that Connecticut makes for an amazing place to live. What are you waiting for? Make a visit.
