Located in the Southwestern part of the United States between Arizona and Texas, New Mexico may not be many peoples' first thought when it comes to starting a business, and particularly when it comes to business long distance service, but businesses there have flourished, thank you very much! With one of the lightest population densities in the country at 16 per square mile, it has the highest percentage of Hispanics and the second highest percentage of native Americans of any state in the country. The native American influence is so strong that the state flag has the Zia symbol on it, an ancient native symbol for the sun.
New Mexico's economy is dominated by oil and gas production, like its cousin to the East, as well as tourism. It is the #3 oil producing state in the country. There is also a strong military presence which accounts for a large part of the Federal government's heavy spending level in the state, which returns $2.03 in benefits for every $1 collected via Federal taxation tax exemptions aimed at job creation. Businesses in New Mexico are heavily incentivized by the federal government, particularly in the form of tax credits and tax exemptions. A lot of these incentives have ended up contributing to a budding filmmaking industry that produced 85 film projects between 2003 and 2011. Politically considered a swing state, New Mexico is able to conjure a lot of political influence for a state with only five electoral votes.
One of the four corner states, New Mexico offers a number of tourist attractions, including the world famous Painted Desert. The state capital, Santa Fe, boasts the San Miguel Mission, the Georgia O'Keefe museum, and the Santa Fe Indian Market. The other large city, Taos, offers the Taos Art Colony, the Taos Pueblo, and the growing Taos Ski Valley. But the biggest city by far is Albuquerque, which includes the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, the Rio Grande Zoo, and the Albuquerque Biological Park.
Other attractions in New Mexico include Roswell, home of the UFO landing site, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and the Billy the Kid Museum in Sumner.
If you do business in New Mexico, you know how difficult it is to get low-cost intrastate long distance service. Consider ECG, which has one of the lowest intrastate rates in New Mexico of any long distance carrier, plus they offer the fantastic 2.5 cents/min interstate long distance rate for which they are famous.
